Now that Bruce Jenner has transformed to Caitlyn, the Olympic gold medalist’s daughter from her first marriage reveals that she has a better relationship with Caitlyn than she ever did with Bruce.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Cassandra Marino — Caitlyn’s daughter with ex-wife Chrystie Scott — admits her relationship with her father has not been the greatest. “My relationship with Caitlyn is much better than with Bruce, but we still have a lot of work to do,” she tells PEOPLE. “We didn’t talk for years, and now we see each other every couple of weeks and talk on the phone, which I am grateful for.”
In fact, Cassandra says that Caitlyn is in a far better place than Bruce ever was. “She’s happier and more appreciative of her family,” says Cassandra of Caitlyn. “She is trying harder and there is a softness to Caitlyn that is new to me. I think part of that is that when someone is happier, they are just nicer.”
One of the invitees to Caitlyn’s “girls’ night” gatherings, Cassandra says she and Caitlyn enjoy “talking about girly things like makeup and clothes,” but adds that “there is so much more to being a woman than our external appearance. I am really looking forward to exploring that more with her.”
