Tom Bergeron has received criticism for a comment he made about “Dancing With the Stars” dancer Witney Carson on Monday’s show.
After Carson and her partner Frankie Muniz performed their routine, judge Carrie Ann Inaba offered her critique.
“So far for me, that was the closest thing to perfection. I mean, you are so exquisite when you dance, it’s just so clean,” Inaba said. “I look for mistakes, but I don’t see them – except for when you almost lost control of Witney there.”
Host Bergeron followed up Inaba’s comment with his own quip, saying, “I’m guessing he’s not the first guy who’s lost control of Witney.” Audience members in the crowd reportedly gasped at the comment.
People reports that following the show, Carson and Muniz were asked about Bergeron’s words.
“I think it was just Make Witney Uncomfortable Day,” Muniz responded.
“Yeah, I guess,” Carson added. “I don’t know, you guys. I didn’t really get it at first because I was like, I don’t really get what that means, but yeah, thanks. Thanks for whatever that was. But I’m just going to brush it off, and I hope you guys do too.”
On Twitter, fans of the show took Bergeron to task over his comments.
