Sarah Silverman makes her very first appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today, and chats with Ellen about everything from gay rights to her engagement to fiancé Michael Sheen (Masters of Sex) and, bizarrely enough, why she hates stage magic.

After Ellen reminds us of Sarah’s statement that she refuses to get married until it’s legal for everyone, gay and straight, Sarah quips: “I love when my friends get married and I’m so happy for them. But I just don’t understand the instinct to want to join a club that is elitist. I mean, it’s like joining a country club that doesn’t allow Jews or black people. What’s the difference?”

However, Sarah also reveals that she and her Masters of Sex beau are engaged, and joked about becoming one of those brides-to-be who shows off her ring. “I just thought when you were engaged you go like this [shows off ring]: ‘Oh my gawd, I’m engaged!’ I didn’t know if was, like, showing off a ring. I just thought it was this weird awkward thing you do with your hand.”

One obstacle that comes between Sarah and her fiancé, however, is his love of magic — and her hatred of it. “I like real magic, like sunsets, or how I can move my hands using only my mind,” explains Sarah. “But, I mean, magic isn’t real… there are people who think that magic is real, like magicians are real. Like, Michael Jackson thought that David Blaine was magic. I just feel like if you think that magicians are reallyt magic, you should maybe not be able to vote.”
