Justin Bieber is rediscovering his “Purpose” as of late.

The “Love Yourself” singer’s renewed commitment to his faith has been well documented in the media, so much so that the public’s fascination with his place of worship has taken on a life of its own.

In an exclusive interview with ET Canada, Carl Lentz – Lead Pastor of Hillsong New York – sat down with Matte Babel to discuss his relationship with The Biebs and how he feels about the Canadian-born pop superstar reigniting his romance with on again, off again flame Selena Gomez.

On if he’s rooting for the couple Lentz said, “I’m rooting for anybody I know to find somebody that makes them better.” He went on to talk about the stars individually.

“Do I want Justin to find somebody that’s gonna make him better, and have him, you know, live a fulfilled, fruitful life? Yes,” he said, adding, “Do I think Selena Gomez is amazing, and I’m hoping that she continues to thrive and flourish and be a legend? Absolutely.”

The two have been spotted attending services at Hillsong – a Pentecostal megachurch founded in Australia, but made famous by its celebrity congregation in America. Carl’s public friendship with Bieber has drawn some criticism, with some alluding that Lentz advised him to cancel the remaining dates of his world tour this past July.

“I think the object of serving somebody as a friend is to hear you first, try to figure out what you need the most… and fit into that,” Lentz said. “So it’s the same way that I would do it with any other friend. I’m not trying to get my point across or try to give heavy-handed advice; I think I’m trying to be a voice of reason when needed.”

The pastor noted that he’d been a part of Bieber’s life long before they shared social media snaps of one another: “[I met Justin] when he was like 13, 14. He’s probably more like a family member to me than like, a guy that I know, ’cause I… have seen his journey. He’s a really – he’s an awesome guy to be around.”

LOVE these two legends…and speaking of love…A wise man named Paul once said…"Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have. Love doesn’t strut, doesn’t have a swelled head, doesn’t force itself on others, isn’t always “me first,” doesn’t fly off the handle, doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, doesn’t revel when others grovel, takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, puts up with anything, trusts God always, always looks for the best, never looks back, but keeps going to the end. Love never dies." If somebody says they "love you" but you don't SEE THESE THINGS? Gaurd your heart! If you have experienced love like this? Best thing you can ever do, is share it w/ as many people as you can… another wise man named Christopher Wallace said "spread love, it's the Brooklyn way.." May it be OUR way, day by day.. #occupyallstreets #aviatorsmountup #longerthetrafficlongerthecaption
