Brad Pitt Transforms For ‘Interview’

Brad Pitt aims to find art in his work and his photo spread for Interview magazine’s fall issue is no different. One of Hollywood’s hottest stars – who tells Interview that he thinks he is one “pretty damn solid”; actor – transforms into a variety of characters in a series of portraits by Steven Klein.

Brad shows off dread locks in one photo, while he dons an eye patch in another… and turns into a hit man in yet another, truly showing his range as a thesp. And speaking of playing with iconography, the actor produces and stars in Killing Them Softly, directed by Andrew Dominik, which he says is a political film wrapped in the guise of a mobster flick.

Inside the latest issue of the magazine Brad sits down to talk about his latest work with a man who knows a thing or two about the genre, Snatch director, Guy Ritchie.

“What Andrew wanted to do with this film was interesting: He wanted to talk about America – and America as a business – but he wanted to hide it within this low-end crime drama,”; explains the heartthrob to the filmmaker, on how the concept was transformed from the 1974 novel Cogan’s Trade by George V. Higgins, into a moral tale about modern propaganda. “We’re at a particularly ugly time when we’re at such a divide in America, but that divide is not there because everyone is trying to figure out what’s best for the people. It’s there because one side is trying to win out over the other side.”;

Killing Them Softly is just one of the more complex roles Brad has tackled lately, and he says because he has the luxury to be choosy he picks ones his kids can be proud of: “I want it to be worthy enough of a story to leave the family, you know? They’re everything. The family is first… I also don’t want to embarrass them.”;

When Guy asks him about how he nails down a project he reveals: “It can’t be something that I’ve done before, when I attempt things like that, it never works – I end up hurting the movie. So it’s just about discovery now and finding something new that’s interesting to me.”;

And what’s most appealing to the dad-of-six right now is staying out of the limelight. “I’d rather be behind the camera,”; he admits. “As a producer, obviously, you’re part of a team that brings the story to the screen. It wouldn’t be there if you didn’t champion it or if you and a group of people weren’t championing it. I like that.”;
