On Game of Thrones it’s become commonplace to kill off major characters in shocking storylines — and now The Simpsons is planning to do the same thing.
As Simpsons showrunner Al Jean revealed to Entertainment Weekly at the ATX television festival, the upcoming season will finally allow Sideshow Bob to do something he’s been trying to do for years: kill his nemesis Bart.
“I hated frustration comedy so we’ll scratch that itch,” Jean told EW, explaining that after Bob achieves his lifelong goal he no longer knows what to do with himself.
Bart’s death will take place in the annual “Treehouse of Horror”; Halloween episode (with Kelsey Grammer returning to voice the iconic villain), so expect Bart to spring back to life the following week.
In other Simpsons news, Jean also announced that viewers can expect to see a return appearance from a fan-favourite character from The Simpsons Movie: Spider-Pig!
EW also reports that producers had no update on whether voice actor Harry Shearer will be back for season 27 after reportedly reaching an impasse during salary negotiations and announcing he was quitting the show. The Simpsons team did note, however, “they’re still hoping to work out a new deal with Shearer.”;
