Sarah Hyland hit back on Twitter on Tuesday after she was criticized for sharing a “naked” selfie with her boyfriend Wells Adams.
The 26-year-old could be seen cozying up to her other half and her dog in bed, in the shot posted on Instagram.
However, social media users were quick to pick up on the apparent lack of clothing in the snap.
Hyland, who only recently started sharing photos with her new “Bachelor in Paradise” beau, has never been one to take negative comments lying down, and she took to Twitter to have her say.
The “Modern Family” star began her rant: “Hey guysssss. I’m explaining myself again! Aren’t you so happy???? Isn’t this what Twitter is for???” before she shared an array of screenshots of notes she’d written.
Hyland posted: “Every once in a while I’ll go through my direct messages from you guys to see what you’re saying and respond. Answer questions. Give advice. Or even just say hello. But I woke up too early to go to work this morning and saw this…” and shared a grab of the direct message she was sent, urging her to “keep her sexual life private.”
Hyland went on: “Not putting her on blast. She just brought to my attention that that picture I posted might have been inappropriate since we’re in bed. So I just have to say I’m so sorry…FOR POSTING AN ADORABLE PICTURE BECAUSE CARL WAS ACTING LIKE THE NUGGETIEST SNUGGLE BUG! Couldn’t let that moment pass without getting a picture.”
The star continued to call her fans “the greatest in the world,” but she did add: “However…this relationship’s tea will only be spilled on social media… for now. Cause never say never and I don’t want to be reminded in the future that I’m a ‘hypocrite.’ Ok. Gotta get ready for work. I LOVE YOU ALL!”
Hyland then said of the “naked” criticism…
Despite Hyland and Adams not publicly speaking about their new relationship, they have been taking to social media to share an array of adorable snaps together.
In August, Hyland split from her boyfriend of two years, “Shadowhunters” star Dominic Sherwood. A source close to the couple told ET at the time that Hyland and Sherwood would remain friends, but noted that the relationship had simply run its course.
