The lives of the most elite unit of Navy SEALs and how they deal with their missions and PTSD is the focus of Global‘s new drama “SEAL Team”. ET Canada’s Roz Weston caught up with series star David Boreanaz about working with real-life SEALs to get his character just right.
“It’s been such a great experience working with these real guys,” Boreanaz says. “The guys that work on our show, that have given us their stories to portray and get right. I think for us, it’s the preciousness of the moment and allowing us to explore that, and really see them dive into their lives outside of work with their families and how they struggle with that, how they struggle to fit into society – that’s what we want to shed a light on.”
Boreanaz is no stranger to the TV world, having starred on the fan-favourite series “Bones”, “Angel” and “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”.
“I’ve been blessed with the people I have surrounded myself with, most importantly the show runners, the writers and the people behind it,” Boreanaz says of his past choices. Though, even he admits not all of his choices have been winners.
“I’ve done some horrific independent movies,” he jokes. “You’re not always right but I’ve been blessed to find some pretty good gems.”
While his latest role as Jason Hayes on “SEAL Team” means lots of physical training to get into shape for the aches and pains that come with his workout regimen.
“It’s pretty hard, my shoulder’s been out for a while,” he admits. But his body aches and pains aren’t keeping the avid hockey player from the ice. “The knees, the joints are in pain but I do play as much hockey as I can.”
“I trained with two NHL players,” Boreanaz says. “They were able to transform my game along with my son’s game. I use that as my back drop to having fun and training rather than the military aspect of training.”
“SEAL Team” airs on Global on Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Watch full episodes of “SEAL Team” here.
