Wendy Williams opened up about being groped by a guest in the early days of “The Wendy Williams Show”. While she didn’t name names, the Internet brought the receipts, quickly pointing out the perpetrator as comedian Gilbert Gottfried.
“My worst guest? I’m not going to name, but I can tell you this, it had to do with some groping,” Williams revealed on Tuesday’s show. “You all saw it and I didn’t say a word. And I felt it and I didn’t say a word. My staff saw it and that guest will never be here anymore.”
She continued: “I hug my guests. He hugged me but lays in my breasts inappropriately and I didn’t know what to do because I am brand new on TV. After the hug, he looked up at me, he goes, ‘Oh! You’re not Oprah!'” Williams was close to disclosing his name before deciding it wasn’t worth it, leading social media fans to start digging.
Twitter immediately went to work on finding the incident in question and linking to an article which describes a 2011 appearance by Gottfried, best known for voicing the parrot Iago in “Aladdin”.
In the article, which includes an image of Gottfried burying his head in her breasts, the short comedian reportedly joked about their height difference.
“I could stay here all week,” he said with his eyes closed and head pressed into her breasts. “Can we just do the interview like this?” After taking a seat on the couch, he joked ,”Hey! You’re not Oprah!”
Gottfried has not yet commented on the incident.
