The world took to social media to shower Prince Harry and Meghan Markle with congratulatory messages after the couple announced their engagement in a statement released Monday.
The Royal Family, Justin Trudeau, Theresa May and Boris Johnson were among those to share their good wishes.
Markle’s “Suits” co-star Patrick J. Adams also took to Twitter to joke the actress “had just gone out to get some milk” and next thing he knew, she was engaged.
The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh posted a statement via Twitter, announcing their “delight” and “wishing the couple every happiness.”
Markle’s parents, Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland, also issued a statement, saying, “We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry.”
Harry’s brother and sister-in-law, Prince William and Kate Middleton, added, “We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.”
A statement released from Kensington Palace on Monday revealed that the couple have been engaged for a few weeks now.
It confirmed, “His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle. The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course.”
“His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month. Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry Has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle’s parents.”
The couple, who will appear for a photo call at Kensington Palace Monday afternoon, are going to live together in Nottingham Cottage.
