Family history experts have fans of Justin Bieber, Ryan Gosling and Avril Lavigne looking at the Canadian-born stars a little bit closer to see if there is a resemblance! Ancestry.ca has revealed that The Biebs shares a bloodline with Ryan and Avril… in fact, all three are cousins.
Their family connection goes back 400 years to early settlers in Quebec, Mathurin Roy – a master mason – and Marguerite Biré. The common relatives were born in France in the early 1600s and wed in 1637 in La Rochelle, France. The couple immigrated to Quebec, where they both died between 1675 and 1681.

A genealogist for Ancestry.ca, Lesley Anderson, says this is indeed an unusual finding: “Discoveries like this are rare, so the fact that some of Canada’s top entertainment industry stars are all related
is especially fascinating… There’s something special about discovering a shared connection, and to be able to go so far back in history to do so is one of the most satisfying aspects of family history research.”
And it seems Bieber’s family tree also includes international superstar and fellow Canuck, Celine Dion. The talented musicians are 10th cousins three times removed via Jacques Vézina and Marie Boisdon, who wed in Saint-Rogatien in 1640 and immigrated to Quebec from France before their deaths in 1687.
