David Ayer, the director of “Suicide Squad” is regretful he didn’t make Joker the main villain of the film.

In an exchange with fans on Twitter, Ayer said he believes the film would have been “a bigger success had I done it a little different.”

When one fan suggested Jared Leto’s Joker should have been the main villain, instead of a side-character, Ayer responded in agreement, saying, “I agonize over this.”

In January, Ayer expressed similar regrets, posting a letter on Twitter in response to a fan.

“Wish I had a time machine,” Ayer said in the letter. “I’d make Joker the main villain and engineer a more grounded story. I have to take the good and bad and learn from it.”
