‘Star Wars’ Actor Adam Driver Sparks Twitter Meltdown As He Asks ‘What Is Emo?’

By Becca Longmire.

His “Star Wars” character Kylo Ren may be known for his “emo” ways, but actor Adam Driver insists he doesn’t even know what the word means.

Driver, 34, is known for his all-black wardobe and rather moody demeanour, so it’s no surprise he had everybody talking when he asked Rolling Stone, “What is emo?” — especially considering fans have named Twitter accounts after “Emo Kylo Ren.”

The star, who has been hard at work promoting “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”, added of his character: “You have someone who’s being told that he’s special his whole life and he can feel it. He feels everything probably more intensely than the people around him, you know?”

He added, of being reluctant to join the “Star Wars” franchise, “I’m always skeptical of Hollywood movies because they’re mostly just too broad. Everything about him [Kylo Ren] from the outside is designed to project the image that he’s assured. Only in private can he acknowledge how un-figured-out he is…how weak.”

Earlier this year, Driver hinted Kylo Ren would show a slightly different side of his personality in the eagerly anticipated upcoming flick.

“I think, erm, maybe this is such a general answer but you know – humanity. Even though it’s very much a blockbuster movie, there was no taking that for granted,” Driver said when asked what fans can expect from his character in the new film.

Driver told Larry King, when asked why the franchise has been so successful, “The world that George Lucas originally created is very unique and specific. And there are all these details that are unexplained and people have attached a lot of meaning to those details and made it personal to them. And at the heart of the story, it’s very simple.”

“Star Wars: The Last Jedi” hits theatres Dec. 15.
