Angelina Jolie-Pitt’s latest humanitarian mission to Syria was particularly special. The mom of six brought along her nine-year-old daughter to meet and greet refugees in Lebanon.
Jolie-Pitt invited Shiloh after she had expressed her desire to meet a special child who had caught her ear — 12-year-old Syrian orphan, named Hala, and her five siblings. Hala first met Jolie-Pit a year ago during a visit for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
“Shiloh is very aware that I hold refugee families in high regard and has been asking to come on missions and meet them for many years,”; Jolie-Pitt told People magazine. “She had heard about Hala since my last visit to Lebanon, and has been wanting to meet her and her brothers and sisters.”
Jolie-Pitt added, “upon leaving the family, Shiloh asked many questions. It is of course hard to explain all of the harsh realities of war and displacement. She said she felt sad, but was happy that she went and is looking forward to the next visit.”
Next up, they’re set to travel to Turkey in honour of World Refugee Day. There, the mother-daughter duo will continue meeting with Syrian and Iraqi refugees alongside UNHCR High Commissioner Antonio Guterres.
The pair will cap off their mission by joining Brad Pitt and the rest of the Jolie-Pitt clan for a big Father’s Day bash.
