Kate Winslet Admits Rose ‘Fully Lies’ To Jack In ‘Titanic’, Reveals Secrets From The Film

“Titanic” would have ended a little differently if Kate Winslet was in charge.

The 42-year-old actress opened up about the iconic film during an appearance on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on Thursday, revealing that from where she was lying, there was room for both Rose and Jack on that door.

“I lie. I fully lie. I hold my hand up, I let him go,” Winslet told Colbert of her famous line, “I’ll never let you go” — though according to her, Jack’s death wasn’t just on Rose. “He just should have tried harder to get on that door, because I think we would have [fit]!”

While Winslet and Colbert hilariously reenacted the scene, the actress also revealed other tidbits about “Titanic”, in honour of its 20th anniversary.

“I don’t think it was scripted. I think we came up with it on the day,” Winslet recalled of Jack and Rose’s steamy sex scene in one of the cars in the ship’s storage. “It did get quite sweaty in the car, but we were spritzed down with spray Evian bottles to make us look really like in the throes of… ”

Leonardo DiCaprio also had a little help from James Cameron when it came to Jack’s artwork, as the director actually drew Winslet like one of Jack’s French girls. The 43-year-old actor also has Cameron to thank for starring in the movie, as the studio’s choice was Matthew McConaughey.

“I auditioned with Matthew — isn’t that weird?” Winslet revealed. “Never said that in public before!”

This isn’t the first time Winslet has made a case for her co-star’s survival in “Titanic”. Watch below.
