Whether it’s onstage during his standup act or on a daytime talk show, Denis Leary is never shy about speaking his mind, and he had a lot to say about disgraced former “Today” host Matt Lauer when the former “Rescue Me” star dropped by to make an appearance on Thursday’s episode of “The Talk” (which airs weekdays at 2 p.m. ET/PT on Global).
When conversation shifted to Lauer — who was unceremoniously fired by NBC due to an accusation of sexual harassment on the job, followed by a Variety article detailing a number of disturbing allegations — Leary did not hold back.
“I thought he was a creepy, douchey guy from the get-go,” Leary told the co-hosts of “The Talk”, resulting in whoops and cheers from the studio audience, apparent shock from Julie Chen and slow-motion clapping from Sharon Osbourne.
“I stopped being interviewed by him on the ‘Today’ show about 10 years ago because he was so creepy,” Leary continued. “I just got a weird, weaselly vibe from the guy, and I said to my publicist, I said, ‘I don’t want to be interviewed by him any longer.’”
Added Leary: “And by the way, I do wanna say this: I don’t wanna go across the board because I do think people deserve second chances, but when you have a button under your desk to lock women into your office, you know what, screw you.”
