‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’: First Reactions To Episode VIII Are Here!

“This is not going to go the way you think.”

The first reactions to “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” are here and certainly echo Luke Skywalker’s standout line from “The Last Jedi” trailer.

The eighth installment of the Skywalker saga had its world premiere on Saturday night at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, where attendees were the very first audience to screen “The Last Jedi”. While reviews are embargoed until Tuesday, Dec. 12, reactions and early buzz began pouring out on social media immediately following the screening.

“A Wrinkle in Time” director Ava DuVernay called the movie “superb storytelling” and a “total joy-ride through the galaxy.”

Taran Killam (in a holiday sweater) sweetly thanked “The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson, writing, “You took care of my childhood, and made my adulthood better.”

“Logan” director James Mangold congratulated Johnson on “dazzling writing and directing work” that allowed Johnson’s “own voice” to shine through.

“Collider Jedi Council” host Kristian Harloff described “The Last Jedi” as a “very different Star Wars film.”

Nerdist editor-in-chief, Rachel Heine, called the movie “bonkers” and warned fans to stay away from possible spoilers.

i09 entertainment reporter Germain Lussier endearingly calls Johnson a “madman,” adding we’ll be talking about “The Last Jedi” for “a long, long time.”

Vanity Fair’s Joanna Robinson shared this one-word review regarding Mark Hamill’s performance:

IGN’s Joshua Yehl reassured fans that “The Last Jedi” is not a remake of “The Empire Strikes Back” as some were expecting.
