Nicole Kidman has spoken to express how “incredibly honoured” she is after “Big Little Lies” bagged six nods in the 2018 Golden Globe nominations announced Monday.
The 50-year-old, who stars in the drama series alongside Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley, and Laura Dern, was one of several stars who released a statement after the exciting news was confirmed.
Kidman shared, “We are all aware of how rare it is for a show and its cast to be honoured in such a huge way, and we are all incredibly grateful.
“Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for giving the show so much love,” the actress added. “It was made with love, guided by the incredible David E. Kelley and Jean-Marc Vallée as well as my partners in passion Reese Witherspoon, Per Saari and Bruna Papandrea. The character Celeste is so precious to me and the recognition is deeply appreciated.”
Kidman’s husband Keith Urban also praised: “Hey baby – CONGRATULATIONS on all the GLOBES love this morn!!!!!! Incredibly proud of you, the work, and all the BLL and TOTL team. THE STARS ALIGNED!!! xxxxxx – KU #GoldenGlobes.”
The TV series, whose second season was confirmed Friday, is up for the award for Best TV Movie or Limited-Series, while Kidman is being honoured in the Best Performing Actress category.
Elsewhere, Alexander Skarsgard is up for the Best Supporting Actor gong; Laura Dern and Shailene Woodley are both nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

Meryl Streep is up for Best Actress for her role in “The Post”, which is up for the Best Motion Picture Drama award. The actress released a statement after hearing the news: “I’m thrilled for the movie, for Steven [Spielberg] and Tom [Hanks], and for the incredible ensemble of actors who made this movie need its moment in history. Thanks HFPA.”
Director Spielberg added, “I am thrilled by today’s recognition by the HFPA and particularly happy for our nominees who made this movie happen —Meryl and Tom, Liz Hannah and Josh Singer, Amy Pascal and Kristie Macosko Krieger, and of course, John Williams. I only wish Kay Graham were still here to experience how much her story affects all of us.”

Sam Rockwell, who is up for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role award for his role in “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”, also shared: “I want to thank the members of the HFPA for this honor, and to also thank and congratulate Martin McDonagh, my friend and collaborator, for bringing Dixon, Mildred, and the characters of ‘Three Billboards’ to the screen.
“It is both exciting and humbling to be joined by Willem, Armie, Christopher and Richard, all of whom I have admired for many years. I am thrilled for Fran, Martin, Carter and the cast and crew who made ‘Three Billboards.’”
Emma Stone, who is up for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture for “Battle of the Sexes”, released this statement: “Thank you to the HFPA for this honour and thank you beyond measure to the one and only Billie Jean King. She is a brilliant, brave and game changing human being and I wish to be half the woman she is someday. I share this with the whole cast and crew of ‘Battle of the Sexes,’ a film I feel very lucky to have been a part of.”
While Sally Hawkins, who is also up for the above award for her role in “The Shape Of Water,” said: “What a beautiful gift. Thank you with all my heart to the Hollywood Foreign Press for honouring this special film and my part in it. I am so very humbled by this acknowledgement.
“Every piece of this film was and is a gift for me. Working with Guillermo Del Toro along with this exceptional cast and crew was one of the most extraordinary heart expanding experiences. He is one of the greatest filmmakers of our time I believe. And I am beyond thrilled that his vision his ingenuity and art work has been recognized in this way…. Thank you with all my heart thank you. I believe in magic and this is a magical thing.”
Claire Foy, who is up for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series for her role in “The Crown” shared: “It is such an honour to receive this nomination today! Thank you so much to the HFPA for their continued support of ‘The Crown.’ I can’t express enough what a wonderful project it has been to be a part of, with such an extraordinary cast and crew. Thank you thank you.”
“Smilf” star Frankie Shaw then added, “I can’t believe it! What started as a little short film I shot in my friends bedroom turned into this. I am so honoured for the show to be recognized and for our name to be up there with all of these amazingly creative and talented people. Thank you to Showtime for believing in us, and thank you thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press!!!”
Mary J. Blige, who has been nominated in the Best Original Song category, released a statement to say: “I am so overjoyed to be nominated for both my role as Florence and for the song ‘Mighty River.’ Dee created such an incredible film and special character for me to play. In fact ‘Mudbound’ inspired me so much, I was able to write and sing ‘Mighty River.’ Thank you to the Hollywood Foreign Press for this honour.”
Geoffrey Rush, who was recently accused of “inappropriate behaviour” during an Australian play, also said he “believed in the complexity of humankind” after receiving a nomination for “Genius.”
He explained, “This is good news for Albert Einstein. I believe in science. I also believe in the complexity of humankind. I am honoured to be in the company of fellow nominees who, with their artistry, have strived to define the multiplicity of dimensions in the male experience.”
Ann Dowd, who has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in “The Handmaid’s Tale,” told ET Canada: “Just as you might suspect, sitting here on a lovely winter’s day in my home…and I get this lovely news. It’s just like ‘pinch me.’ You know, it’s… the holidays are coming… this is just so so lovely… really wonderful.”
Ridley Scott said on behalf of his nom for “All the Money in the World”: “I am thrilled and grateful to the HFPA for recognizing ‘All the Money in the World.’ I am especially proud that the beautiful performances of Michelle and Chris were celebrated today.
“Despite the unexpected challenges we encountered after shooting was completed, we were determined that audiences around the world would be able to see our film. Hundreds of people associated with the project put their hearts and souls into every frame to ensure that could happen. So the fact that we have received these wonderful acknowledgements this morning is especially gratifying. Thank you HFPA.”
As Freddie Highmore, who is up for Best Actor in a TV Series for his role in “The Good Doctor,” added: “There cannot be more wonderful news to wake up to on a Monday morning than this. Thank you to each and every member of the Hollywood Foreign Press for this amazing honour. I’m proud that an optimistic, hopeful and unabashedly ‘good’ character like Shaun has resonated with so many. And to David, the writers, producers, cast and crew of ‘The Good Doctor’ – thank you all, and I can’t wait to spend the day celebrating with (most of!) you on set today.”
Alison Brie then explained in a statement, “I am so honoured and proud to be nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. ‘Glow’ has been such a labor of love and I’m very excited that ‘The Disaster Artist’ and ‘The Post’ also got recognized this morning.”
Katherine Langford, who is up for her role in “13 Reasons Why” went on, “Words cannot express my sheer excitement and gratitude for being nominated by the HFPA this morning for portraying ‘Hannah Baker,’ a young woman whom I have come to truly love and understand. Hannah’s story resonated with so many people, and I feel truly grateful to Netflix, Paramount TV, Brian Yorkey, Tom McCarthy, Selena Gomez, and all of our tremendous producers…and to our incredibly talented cast – who are also my dear friends, and our wonderful crew for bringing this story to life.
“Most of all, my sincere hope is that the recognition continues to shine a light on so many of the important life issues and struggles we portray in ’13 Reasons Why.’ I’m forever grateful to have been given this opportunity and will continue to work hard to bring dignity, respect and grace to such a powerful character.”
Helen Mirren added of her Best Actress nod, “I am honoured that our film, ‘The Leisure Seeker’ has been recognized with this nomination. I would like to recognize the work of the two men in my life of this film: Paolo Virzi and Donald Sutherland.”
Max Mutchnick and David Kohan issued a joint statement on behalf of their “Will & Grace” nom for Best TV Series – Musical or Comedy.
The co-creators and executive producers shared, “What an incredible honour that the HFPA has recognized ‘Will & Grace’ with a comedy series nomination. We’re grateful we’ve been welcomed back in this way after an 11 year hiatus and given the opportunity to continue writing for these characters.”
“Master of None”‘s Alan Yang continued of his nod: “Aziz and I and the whole team behind the show are thrilled and honoured by the nomination. We’re especially excited to eat dinner in a big ballroom with some of our heroes, like Steven Spielberg, Meryl Streep, and the fish man from ‘Shape of Water.’ Very curious to see which entree he’ll order, the chicken or the steak. Pretty sure it won’t be fish, because that would be weird. We’d also like to thank Netflix, Universal, and of course the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for the recognition!”
Hong Chau, who is nominated for her role in “Downsizing,” also told ET Canada: “To be nominated…I’m just grateful that I get to be working on an amazing film with a tremendous story from Alexander Payne, one of the great American film directors and to be opposite Matt Damon and Christoph Waltz. It’s [like] I feel that’s the prize right there in itself.”
Hugh Jackman, Issa Rae, Ansel Elgort, Mariah Carey and Millie Bobby Brown were among those to take to social media after the nominations were announced, with Seth Rogen gushing over “The Disaster Artist”‘s nod.
