The first-ever Canadian Maple Awards was held in Los Angeles last night, fittingly enough on Canada Day.
Presented by the recently formed Academy of Canadians in Sports and Entertainment, the awards honoured Canadian talent who made an impact in sports and entertainment, with NBA star-turned-actor Rick Fox honoured with the 2015 Maple of Excellence for Outstanding Athlete/Actor Crossover award, while Canadian CrossFit champion Lucas Parker received the 2015 Maple of Excellence for Outstanding Athlete award.
The event was hosted by Erin Karpluk (soon to be seen in the upcoming Riftworld Chronicles), who stepped in when host Lauren Ash (iSuper Fun Night) was forced to cancel due to illness.
Other awards were presented to:
* Brandon Jay McLaren (Graceland): Best Actor in a TV Series Broadcast in the U.S.
* Amanda Crew (Silicon Valley): Best Actress in a TV Series Broadcast in the U.S.
* Meaghan Rath (New Girl) and Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek; 12 Monkeys), who were each presented with the award for Newcomer of the Year in a TV Series Broadcast in the U.S.
