As far as Ian McKellen is considered, he is the only man capable of playing the great wizard Gandalf.
McKellen, 78, expressed interest in reprising his role from Peter Jackson’s “Lord of the Rings” films in the upcoming “LOTR” Amazon series.
Chatting with Graham Norton on BBC Radio 2, the long-time actor refused to humour the idea of anyone else playing Gandalf on the screen. “What do you mean, another Gandalf?” said McKellen. “I haven’t said yes because I haven’t been asked.”
“But are you suggesting that someone else is going to play it?” he continued. “Gandalf is over 7000 years old, so I’m not too old.”
McKellen played the role of Gandalf the Grey — and later Gandalf the White — in both the “Lord of the Rings” film franchise and “The Hobbit” trilogy.
Amazon confirmed in November that the project had received the green light and the series has already been confirmed for multiple seasons.
