That mighty roar you hear is the unstoppable box office power of Jurassic World, which continues to tower over the competition in this weekend’s big-screen box office race.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the dino-powered sequel racked in another $30.9 million this weekend, for a total North American box office take of $558 million. Pixar hit Inside Out came in at a close second this weekend with $30.1 million, and a total domestic total of $246.2 million.
This was bad news for the weekend’s new arrivals, Terminator: Genisys and Magic Mike XXL, neither of which lived up to expectations.
The latest entry in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator franchise took in a relatively puny $28.7 million (for a five-day total of $44.1 million), while the Magic Mike sequel only brought in $12 million this weekend (total so far: $27.1 mil, a far cry from the $39 million the first Magic Mike achieved during its opening weekend).
Given its whopping $155-million budget, the anemic box office of Genisys likely spells the end of the Terminator franchise; turns out he probably won’t be back.
