An early cast photo of ABC’s upcoming revival of “Roseanne” resulted in something of a mystery, featuring both Lecy Goranson — who played eldest daughter Becky until season six, when the actress left the show to attend college — and Sarah Chalke, who played Becky in part of season six and all of season seven (they shared the role in season eight, which became something of a running gag throughout the season when one Becky would exit and another would enter, often within the same scene).

With both actresses returning for the revival, fans began wondering if Chalke and Goranson would be sharing the Becky duties once more, but a report in Entertainment Weekly indicates that won’t be the case. According to EW, Goranson will be playing Becky while Ottawa-born Chalke will be playing a brand-new character: a middle-class married woman named Andrea who hires Becky to be her surrogate.

“I love the part! It’s such a fun part to play,” Chalke tells EW.

As the former “Scrubs” star explains, her one-time TV sister Sara Gilbert and exec producer Tom Werner reached out to see if she’d like to be involved in the revived “Roseanne”, and she jumped at the opportunity.

“I was so excited to hear that it was coming back. I think the timing is perfect,” she adds. “I think it’s exactly what is needed right now. Right now when the country is so divided, I really think it’s a show that brings people together. The writing is so unbelievable. It’s so funny.”

Meanwhile, exec producer Bruce Helford (who served as “Roseanne” showrunner in the 1992-1993 season) promises that viewers “will feel the emotion from seeing that set again. It will be an extra-special experience.”

“Roseanne” returns on Tuesday, Mar. 27.
