Ed Sheeran And Beyonce Earn U.K.’s Christmas #1

Ed Sheeran lands his first Christmas #1 single thanks to his “Perfect” duet with Beyonce.

The rival that Sheeran top to take the #1 spot? Why, himself, beating out “River”, his collaboration with Eminem.

While “River” came in at #2, Wham’s “Last Christmas” took third place.

In a video message, Sheeran couldn’t be more thrilled with his chart accomplishment. “I’m very proud and happy,” he said.

“This is an actual dream come true and I’m very, very proud and happy,” he added. “Thank you so much for streaming it and buying it, and have a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Happy New Year.”

Sheeran’s victory on the charts is bittersweet for fans who hoped “Last Christmas” would clinch first place to mark the one-year anniversary of George Michael’s death.
