For decades one debate has raged on, and finally it has been settled: “Die Hard” is a Christmas movie.

Though Christmas is only the film’s setting, and the film itself was released during the summer of 1988, “Die Hard” screenwriter Steven E. de Souza has confirmed that the Bruce Willis action flick is indeed the holiday classic we always knew it was.

De Souza gave his view on the matter in a joking response to a tweet from CNN’s Jake Tapper posing the ultimate question.

In response to another fan of the film on Twitter, de Souza added that there even the film’s events and themes make clear that, yes, “Die Hard” is and always has been a Christmas movie.
