Fans at last night’s presentation of Steve Martin and Martin Short’s A Very Stupid Conversation stage show in San Antonio, Texas, got a very special surprise — actually, 10 very special surprises, when former Late Show host David Letterman made an unannounced appearance to deliver a Donald Trump-themed Top 10 list.
“I retired and… I had no regrets,”; a white-bearded Letterman told the crowd, reports Rolling Stone. “None. I was happy. I’ll make actual friends. I was complacent, I was satisfied, I was content. And then a couple of days ago, Donald Trump said he was running for president.”;
Reaching into his pocket to retrieve a piece of paper, he continued: “I have made the biggest mistake of my life, I tell you. Every suit I own comes with a Top Ten list.”;
He proceeded to share the top 10 “Interesting Facts About Donald Trump.”;
“Number 10: That thing on his head was the gopher in Caddyshack. Number Nine: During sex, Donald Trump calls out his own name,”; Letterman quipped, even giving his onstage pals a Top-10 shout-out: “Number Two: Donald Trump has pissed off so many Mexicans that he’s starring in a movie called No Amigos.“
Following the Top 10 list, Letterman sat down to chat with Martin and Short. Asked about what Late Show bandleader Paul Shaffer is up to following the show’s end, Letterman quipped: “Right now Paul is doing what he’s always been meant to do: He’s a maître d’ in a spaceship.”;
Steve Martin commemorated the impromptu visit on Twitter:
