“The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” is one of the most eagerly-anticipated shows of 2018 and now viewers have been given a sneak peek of what’s to come in a new featurette from FX.
The upcoming show, which follows on from “American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson”, focuses around the brutal murder of one of the top names in fashion.
The newly-released trailer allows viewers to get a feel of how the season is going to play out, with the likes of Penelope Cruz (Donatella Versace), Edgar Ramirez (Gianni Versace), Ricky Martin (Antonio D’Amico) and Darren Criss (Andrew Cunanan) each giving their opinions on the case.
Cruz shared in the video interview: “Versace was very loved. Everybody who met him, they were fascinated by him. And nobody expected this.”
“For every season of ‘American Crime Story’, what we’re interested in is, what makes this an American crime – a crime that America is guilty of, not just the characters we’re exploring,” executive producer Nina Jacobson added.
Versace was gunned down at his South Florida mansion on July 15, 1997 by Andrew Cunanan, who had already killed five men in the three months prior to the horrific murder.
Criss, who is playing Cunanan, told the camera: “This particular manhunt is the largest failed FBI manhunt in history. The truth is, fear and prejudice is always in fashion.”
Executive producer Brad Simpson added that the story of Cunanan “is a journey through the politics of homosexuality as they play out across America in the 1990s.”
“The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” premieres on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
