CTV Atlantic reporter Heather Butts likely did not expect to be battered by offensive verbal remarks while live on air, but that is exactly what happened.

Halifax police are investigating an incident that occurred while Butts was working on camera from the scene of a local bar on Friday.

“During a live hit at a local bar tonight, something offensive was said to me and it went on the air,” Butts said on Twitter. “I want everyone to know that I am fine and I thank you all for your support. I will be pursuing this further.”

The reporter was performing a live hit from the Pint Public House during a world junior hockey championship game. That is when a man approached her and appeared to make a rude gesture while calling out a sexually explicit phrase.

Staff Sgt. Greg Mason of Halifax Regional Police said officers have followed up on a complaint regarding the broadcast. “We’ve spoken to all the people who appear to be involved right now, other than the individual that made the comment,” Mason said on Saturday, according to The National Post.

Several Canadian journalists shared their support for Butts online.
