It seems as though the rape allegations came a little too close to home for Judd Apatow. The 47-year-old filmmaker reveals that he knows one of the victims who claims to have been sexually assaulted by Bill Cosby.
“The Cosby thing I took seriously because I know one of the victims, who is not going to come forward,”; he reveals to Rolling Stone. “I had a personal connection to it, where somebody that I care about said that’s exactly how it went down.”;
Being one of the strongest voices in the matter, Apatow encourages others in the industry to step up and speak out against the comic and hopes that victims themselves will do the same.
“If women don’t speak up, more women will be raped,” Apatow tells the magazine. “So it’s really all about preventing other people from getting hurt, because Cosby’s on tour — ignoring all of the victims is a signal to other victims that when you speak up, people will not take care of you and do something about it.”
Apatow acknowledges the fact that some may find it hard to believe their favourite TV dad is guilty of these crimes, but continues, “At some point enough women came forward that the world knows this happened and that he is clearly some sort of sociopath.”
