According to The Hollywood Reporter, the “Howards End” actress is currently finalizing a deal to star as the infamous party girl of the Royal Family, taking over the part from Vanessa Kirby.
“I’m just so excited about whoever gets to do it because they’ve definitely got the coolest stuff coming up,” Kirby told THR. “Bring on the drama! I would have loved to have done it. I absolutely love to do all the blazing rows and getting drunk and just all of it. But I suppose I was lucky enough to have two seasons, so I could be more grateful, really.”
Bonham Carter had been in the running to play Queen Elizabeth II, taking over from Claire Foy, but the role eventually went to Olivia Colman.
This isn’t the first time Bonham Carter has played a royal. In 2010 she played the Queen Mother in the Oscar-winning “The King’s Speech”. Colman herself has also played the Queen Mum, in the 2012 film “Hyde Park on Hudson”.
