Co-founder of the rock and roll group, The Diamonds’, has died from cancer in Santa Barbara, California. Somerville was 81.
The Ontario born singer met the band while working as a radio operator at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1953.
Three years later, Somerville and his crew were discovered where they later went on tour with Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Paul Anka, Buddy Holly and The Everly Brothers.
In 1961, Somerville left his band to pursue a career as a folk artist with the name David Troy, before joining The Four Preps in 1967.
Recently, Somerville performed “Dave Somerville Original Lead Singer Of The Diamonds’,” where he received entry to five halls of fame.
The Diamonds’ charted with 16 Billboard Hits between 1956 and 1961.
He is survived by his wife Denise, son David Orlando and grandson Chilao.
