‘Pixels’ Star Adam Sandler Admits He Was A Nerd

By ETCanada.com Staff.

Adam Sandler may be one of the biggest names in comedy, but there was a time when he himself may have been the butt of a few jokes.

“I guess looking back, I was nerdier than I thought,”; he tells ET Canada“s Natasha Gargiulo. “I did have to get off the bus and have to go to Hebrew school, automatically there’s a tense moment in that.”;

But now Sandler’s getting the last laugh, especially when it comes to his latest film, Pixels. The family-friendly movie begins with aliens getting a hold of an ’80s-era time capsule that includes video games. But the aliens get the wrong idea and think it’s a declaration of war. Using the video games for inspiration, the aliens attack earth, and only Sam Brenner (played by Adam) and his fellow former video game champs (Peter Dinklage and Josh Gad) can save the world.

Sandler’s kids, nine-year-old Sadie and six-year-old Sunny, loved the movie. But will other kids really appreciate or even understand all the ’80s gaming references? Adam says yes!

“Every kid knows Pac-Man!”; says Adam. “It’s their apps. Pac-Man’s got some weird connection with everybody.”;

Pixels opens in theatres July 24. Watch  the full interview with Natasha below!
