“John Wick” will be heading to the small screen, with U.S. cable network Starz revealing it’s developing a new TV series based on the action-movie franchise in which Keanu Reeves plays an unstoppable hit man.
As Deadline reports, on Friday morning during its session at the TV Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California, Starz announced plans for “The Continental”, set in the same world as “John Wick” and its sequels.
According to Starz CEO Chris Albrecht, “The Continental” isn’t a TV version of the movies; rather, “the show and the movies exist side by side.”
Describing the show as “truly unlike anything else on TV,” Albrecht noted that “The Continental” will “include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the ‘John Wick’ movie franchise, as well as introducing some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world.”
Reeves will serve as an executive producer on the show, and Starz head of programming Carmi Zlotnick revealed that “you can expect to see him at some point of the series.”
No airdate has yet been set for “The Continental”.
