Catherine Zeta-Jones has spoken out in support of her husband, Michael Douglas, after he preemptively denied a three decades old allegation of sexual misconduct.

Zeta-Jones, 48, spoke to the Associated Press Sunday about Douglas’ interview with Deadline, in which he called the claims, which accused him of masturbating in front of a female employee more than 30 years ago, “a complete lie.”

The actress explained: “He did a preemptive announcement, which says it all. For me to comment on it is that listen, I support this movement. I support the truth in this movement and I support the truth going forward in this movement and I think Michael is the person to talk to about that. But I was very, very happy with what he had to do and he did it in a very, very concise, clear and personal manner.”

Zeta-Jones added that Douglas, 73, is a huge supporter of the sexual misconduct defence initiative, Time’s Up.

“Michael is 110 percent behind this movement. He’s married to an actress. His mother was an actress. He’s been in this business working creatively with women for over 50 years,” she shared.

Zeta-Jones also supports the movement, going on to say: “But the pendulum is going to settle where we’ve made some really great headway. And so this is a great time for women. It’s a great time for us when it all dies down, because it will, and we go through back into life and we try to instill this and work this through our lives, that women remember this time of how great we are when we work together and are strong for each other.”

“There’s plenty of room in the boardroom for more than one woman. There’s plenty of roles on the screen for more than one woman,” she added.

As well as the masturbation allegations, Douglas was also accused of using colourful language in front of the woman in question, speaking dirtily with friends of his, and blackballing her from the industry after she got fired; all of which he denies. Read more here.
