Fans have been given a sneak peek at the upcoming fantasy film “A Wrinkle in Time” as a short, behind-the-scenes clip was unveiled online ahead of its March release date.
The movie, which stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Pine, tells the tale of a little girl named Meg who gets sent to space to find her scientist father after his disappearance.
Giving fans a look at what they can expect in the eagerly anticipated flick, director Ava DuVernay joins members of the cast in the recently released video.
Oprah, who plays Mrs. Which in the film, tells the camera, “The particular discipline, organization and artful eye that Ava brings to the work inspires everybody that’s working for her.”
While Mindy Kaling, who stars as Mrs. Who, adds: “I’ve never been part of a movie where the diversity happening on camera and off camera is so effortlessly inclusive.”
The clip comes after DuVernay spoke to Marie Claire about her latest project.
She explained of the movie, which is based on the beloved book of the same name: “One of the great things about ‘A Wrinkle in Time’ has been world creation, being able to play with big visual effects and all that stuff that so few women and directors of colour get to do.”
“For women and people of colour, sci-fi takes on a much more potent space in our consciousness and imagination. It feels a lot more robust when I read the work of sci-fi or fantasy writers who are women, or women of colour, because there is a muscularity to it that speaks to a present, a real situation, and it’s not just escapism for fun’s sake. It’s escapism for survival, for sanity—it’s imagining a world that’s not here.”
“A Wrinkle in Time” hits theatres March 9.
