Jane Fonda has never been one to hold her tongue and Tuesday was no different, as she hit back at Lily Tomlin after her “Grace and Frankie” co-star made a comment about her plastic surgery live on TV.
Fonda famously shut down Megyn Kelly back in September when she was asked about any work she’d had done; it was now Tomlin’s turn to comment on the actress’ facial features.
However, Fonda had the perfect response to the jibe, which Tomlin made while the pair chatted with Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb on NBC’s “Today”.
Fonda, 80, and Tomlin, 78, who have been hard at work promoting the new season of “Grace and Frankie,” were asked on Tuesday’s show: “You guys are real friends on and off camera, right?”
Fonda then replied, “Sometimes,” as Kotb pressed: “How long have you guys known each other?”
This then gave Tomlin the perfect excuse to say: “Oh, my gosh… I think before your first facelift!”
As Guthrie asked the star to repeat what she’d just said, Fonda insisted: “Nevermind! Nevermind! We don’t need to hear that!” before she eventually turned to her co-star and asked, “Who are you, Megyn Kelly?”
Fonda hit out at Kelly in a previous chat when she was asked about her surgery, despite being there alongside co-star Robert Redford to talk about their movie “Our Souls at Night”.
Kelly asked at the time, “You’ve been an example to everyone in how to age beautifully and with strength and unapologetically. You admit you’ve had work done, which I think is to your credit. But you look amazing… I read that you said you’re not proud to say you’ve had work done. Why not?”
After an awkward pause, Fonda fired back, “We really want to talk about that now?”
