“Surfin'” arguably jump-started The Beach Boys career, but Brian Wilson’s high school music teacher thought the song’s composition was a stinker.

The co-founder of The Beach Boys composed the song in high school for his music class and received a failing grade for his efforts.

“Brian wrote a composition for me and it turned out to be ‘Surfin.’ That composition got an F, but it made a million dollars,” said his old music teacher Fred Morgan in a tweet from Wilson’s official page.

But Wilson got the last laugh. The Beach Boys member returned to Hawthorne High School on Monday, 58 years after graduating, to have his grade corrected.

“Brian’s failing grade has now been changed to an A on this assignment by Dr. Landesfeind!” the tweet continued. “A trip down memory lane: Brian visiting Hawthorne High School,” read a second tweet.
