The latest trailer for “Tomb Raider” has everything: an intriguing mystery, death-defying leaps of faith, a deep conspiracy theory and a Destiny’s Child throwback.
Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander takes on the iconic role of Lara Croft as she goes searching for her missing father in the latest incarnation of the “Tomb Raider” series. Shedding more light on Croft’s survival skills as she leaves her life in London behind to investigate the disappearance of her dad (played by Dominic West), a part-time adventurer who just happens to be the head of a global empire. Explicitly defying her dad’s wishes, Croft embarks on her treacherous mission as she seeks out his final destination – a mysterious tomb nicknamed “The Mother Of Death” located on a mythical island somewhere off the coast of Japan.
The brand new trailer depicts a story that seems to rely heavily on the 2013 edition of the video game while setting all the heart-pounding action to a gritty cover of Destiny Child’s “Survivor”. Co-starring Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu and Kristin Scott Thomas, “Tomb Raider” is slated to hit theatres on March 16.
The 29-year-old Vikander got into fighting shape for the role, reportedly adding 16 pounds of muscle to her 5-foot-5 frame. Her rigorous training schedule is said to have included spending seven days a week in the gym and indulging in some very Lara Croft-worthy mixed martial arts, rock climbing and archery. The newlywed also eliminated sugar from her diet and stuck to a regimented schedule, eating every three hours, according to her trainer, Magnus Lygdback.
