Jamie Dornan may send temperatures soaring as Christian Grey in the sexually charged “Fifty Shades” trilogy, but the actor admitted he was a late bloomer as he appeared on Friday’s upcoming episode of “The Graham Norton Show”.
The 35-year-old told about the moment he thought it would be a good idea to add a little more hair “down there” when he was a teenager. However, unsurprisingly, it didn’t go so well when he tried to rip the wig off.
Dornan explained: “I was quite small and wasn’t hairy at all – I was 15 and looked seven. On one particular day, I was in an amateur drama play and was going to a party after. For my role, I had bits of a black wig glued to my face for a beard and I decided to keep it for the party so I would look older.
“I also decided to cut up the rest of wig and glue it to my private parts just in case I got lucky. I didn’t get lucky and removing the bits of wig ripped out the very small amount of natural hair I had down there. It was a physically and emotionally painful experience!”
Dornan recently sparked an online frenzy when a “Fifty Shades Freed” trailer showed him emerging from the sea James Bond-style, but he said things aren’t nearly as glamorous as they seem on-screen when you’re stripping off for saucy scenes.
He said, when asked if he’d ever got fully nude for the flick: “On set I wore a wee pouch to keep everything in. I was given a selection – for size I guess – and when I found one that fit I took it off and noticed inside a label that said, ‘Inmate number three’ – clearly it had been worn before! I just had to grin and bear it.”
Dornan, who stars in the film alongside Dakota Johnson, who plays Anastasia Steele, also said there was a time during filming when he had to “wear a pair of jelly sandals,” with him telling the host: “No one looks sexy in those!”
“Fifty Shades Freed” hits theatres February 9.
