“Trading Spaces” is back.

The home design hit, which originally aired between 2000 and 2011, is getting a makeover for a brand new reboot. ET Canada sits down with the show’s cast, including original designers Hildi Santo-Tomas, Doug Wilson, Ty Pennington and host Paige Davis to get the scoop on the show’s return.

“It feel amazing, ” says Pennington who began his TV career as a carpenter on “Trading Spaces” original run. “We’re like a family. It really is sort of a reunion.”

That’s a sentiment echoed by series host Paige Davis.

“You’ll hear us say, ‘We’re like family.’ We really don’t mean that in a maudlin way. We just mean we act more like brothers and sisters than we even do friends,” she says.

For returning designer Wilson, there was some hesitation at first.

“It was like getting back on a bike,” says designer Wilson. “I was a little nervous about coming back because so many things have changed. Our audience is much more educated than they were 10 years ago when we stopped. You feel a little rusty.”

“What we started 18 years ago was unique, it was iconic,” says Santo-Tomas.

The cast is also ready welcome a new face to the “Trading Spaces” clan with carpenter Brett Tutor who says he was excited to get to work with Pennington, but admits it wasn’t easy.

“You gave me a month’s worth of carpentry projects,” he says, adding, “There’s so much love and so much respect and they’ve build something so amazing. To get to be a part of that is a huge privilege.”

While the budgets have increased to $2,000 for the room design, Pennington says the true heart of the show remains the same.

“The beauty of ‘Trading Spaces’ is it’s really about making something out of nothing,” he says.

“‘Trading Spaces’ was a catalyst for an entire new genre of television,” Davis says, citing the influence of the show on home renovation series that have come since ‘Trading Spaces’ debuted. “We changed the landscape of TV.”

“Trading Spaces” returns on April 7.
