Tiffany Haddish made filmgoers bust a gut in last summer’s surprise comedy hit “Girls Trip”, and she’s creating new levels of hilarity thanks to a vodka-fuelled history lesson on an art historian who outsmarted the Nazis during the Second World War for “Drunk History”.
The Comedy Central series — which returned with its fifth season on Tuesday, Jan. 23 — features comedians recounting various historical tales after downing copious amounts of liquor, with their boozy recollections then re-enacted by actors.
The season premiere featured Haddish becoming progressively drunker as she put her own inimitable spin on the story, which was then acted out verbatim by Busy Philipps.
“Drunk History” creator Derek Waters spoke with Vulture about Haddish’s drunken storytelling, admitting that she hit it out of the park.
“Unbelievable,” he says. “I mean, she told the story and gave it her own take. Who would ever imagine that story would end with Tupac and Hitler together? She’s the best storyteller. It’s hard to smile learning about Nazis, and it’s hard not to smile throughout that whole story because it’s her.”
The Twitterverse took notice — and even Haddish took to Twitter to joke that “if you thought I was messing up names at the Oscars wait till you see this.”
