There are many reasons why people decide to eschew eating animal-based foods and consume a strictly vegan diet, but a new documentary co-produced by “Avatar” director James Cameron offers yet another reason: better sex!
That’s one of the takeaways from “The Game Changers”, the new documentary from Cameron and Louie Psihoyos (“The Cove”), who debuted the film at the Sundance Film Festival this week to critical acclaim.
The film seeks to disprove myths about veganism by following James Wilks — a special forces trainer, UFC fighter and a winner of TV reality series “The Ultimate Fighter” — as he connects with the world’s most elite athletes, soldiers, scientists and others to determine what kind of effects a diet free of animal-based foods will have on athletic performance.
“What I discovered was so revolutionary,” Wilks says on the film’s website, “with such profound implications for performance, health, and the future of the planet itself, that I had to share it with the world.”
One particular part of the movie, however, has made people take notice. As PlantBasedNews.org reports, three college athletes took part in an experiment, eating a plant-based diet and then wearing special machines that measured their erections as they slept.
The tests found that their erections were “longer and fuller,” leading them to conclude that a plant-based diet will lead to a better sex life (all three athletes, in fact, vowed to eat vegan on “date nights”). “So really, the guy eating the big steak is soft?” quips one of the men.
“We’re trying to dispel the myth that you need protein from animals to become a ‘real man,'” says Psihoyos.
