U.S. President Donald Trump’s forthcoming State of the Union address has sparked a counter movement by Hollywood stars.
Mark Ruffalo, Whoopi Goldberg, Michael Moore, Alyssa Milano, Lee Daniels and more will attend “The People’s State of the Union” event, which is promoted as a “public alternative” to Trump’s first-ever address.
“The People’s State of the Union” is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 29 — one day before Trump’s event — at the historic Town Hall in Manhattan, New York City.
Singer Andra Day and rapper Common will perform their Grammy and Oscar-nominated song “Stand Up for Something” from the film “Marshall”.
Ruffalo, the “Avengers” star, described the gathering as an “inspirational event where activists and influencers join together to articulate a positive vision for our future, and how we’re going to win our country back,” per the Associated Press.
Furthermore, Milano wants everyone involved. She called for social media users to create brief videos describing “your dream for America” and post them with the hashtag “#StateOfTheDream”. “Please join us! Resist and persist with digital counter-programming to Trump’s #SOTU,” she tweeted.
The event will be livestreamed on Monday at peoplessotu.org.
