Well, that did not take long.
Fans were outraged to hear of the departure of “Grey’s Anatomy” stars Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw, but the former has already found her next big gig. Drew will star alongside Michelle Hurd as the leads of CBS’ anticipated “Cagney and Lacey” reboot.
The network is putting a lot their chips on revivals of classic television shows. CBS has given pilot orders to reboots of both “Cagney and Lacey” and “Magnum P.I.”, as well as an order for the new drama “Chiefs”.
Actor Jay Hernandez landed the lead role in “Magnum P.I.” last month. “Magnum P.I.” is an important investment for CBS, who previously committed to a big pilot production. Peter Lenkov will write for the series while Hernandez will take on the title role.
Lenkov has successfully revived “Hawaii Five-0” and “MacGyver” in the past. The new “Magnum P.I.” follows a decorated ex-Navy SEAL named Thomas Magnum who switches up his trade and becomes a private investigator.
Hernandez is known for his work in “Scandal”, “Bad Moms” and “Suicide Squad”. CBS also recently ordered a 13-episode revival of “Murphy Brown”, starring original lead Candice Bergen.
“Cagney and Lacey” will return to TV for the first time since 1988.
