UPDATE: Tuesday, August 4, (9:25 pm ET) – CBC has released a statement saying:

“The public can sign a book of condolences for Chris Hyndman in the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto on WednesdayA celebration of his life will be held at a later date.”;

Christopher Hyndman of CBC daytime talk show Steven and Chris has passed away. He was 49.

The announcement of his death was made by CBC in a memo.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the news Christopher Hyndman died early this morning,”; reads the statement on the show’s Facebook page. “We extend our deepest sympathies to Steven, family, friends and colleagues; our thoughts are with them all.”;

In light of this sad news, CBC is removing the show from its schedule, effective immediately.

Hyndman and co-host Steven Sabados were partners both on- and off-screen. Prior to Steven and Chris, the couple gained fame with their HGTV Canada series Designer Guys before going on to appear in such series as HGTV follow-up Chic with Steven and Chris and Slice’s Design RivalsThey were married in 2008.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Chris Hyndman. We were fortunate to work with him earlier in his career on HGTV’s Designer Guys and Design Rivals and Slice’s So Chic,”; said Christine Shipton, SVP and Chief Creative Officer, Shaw Media in a statement. “He was a wonderful and talented man and will be greatly missed. Our sympathies go out to his family, friends and colleagues.”;

Details of Hyndman’s passing are scarce, but Global News reports that a body was discovered overnight in an alley near Broadview Avenue and Queen Street in Toronto; a “source close to Global News”; said that Hyndman and Sabados lived nearby.

According to Global News, paramedics say the man was “found without vital signs and was pronounced dead at the scene.”;

Toronto police have confirmed to CBC News that the body discovered was Hyndman, and Det. Terry Wray says the case remains a “completely open investigation,”; but added that police would not be commenting any further until completing interviews regarding the incident.

More details to come as further information becomes known.
