The tragic passing of Chris Hyndman has left everyone asking why and how the beloved TV personality died.
His mother is now speaking out, telling the The Toronto Star she thinks her son’s death is the result of sleepwalking.
In an interview from her home in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Glenda Hyndman says she believes her son died in an “unfortunate accident”; after falling from the terrace of his sixth-floor penthouse apartment while sleepwalking.
“Christopher was a sleepwalker, and he did that a lot. He even ate in his sleep,” she explains. “It’s not good, but that’s his reality.”;
Toronto Police spokesperson Meaghan Gray wouldn’t confirm this to The Star, and stated that the investigation into Hyndman’s death is still open. However, police do not suspect there was anything suspicious or criminal involved.
Hyndman tells The Star that her son and husband Steven Sabados went to bed Monday night, and that Sabados was awakened by police knocking on his door to inform him of what happened.
“He’s really, really, really struggling,” she says of Sabados. “I’m going up there [to Toronto], and I’m going to stay as long as I need to help him, because I’m his only little piece of Christopher left.”;
She adds: “He shouldn’t have gone so soon, but he’s gone and we have to accept that and get past it. He was my only baby.”;
Family friend Glady Bell spoke with ET Canada, and confirmed the late star’s struggles with sleepwalking. “Oh, definitely Christopher had a big problem with sleepwalking,”; she says.
“I know Steven has got up and Chris is sound asleep and he’s eating or he’s up walking around eating and he’s just like sound asleep. It’s scary when people do that. You never ever think, the worst of anything, would happen.”;
Bell dismisses any thoughts that Hyndman would have taken his own life. “Christopher, that would be the last thing he ever would have done. He was scared of heights and he didn’t like water. He wouldn’t even get in the hot tub with us, because he didn’t like water. Christopher, he’s the farthest away you could ever think to kill himself. That just wouldn’t be him and that’s not him.”;
