Supermodel Kate Upton has come forward to lodge some disturbing allegations against Paul Marciano, co-founder and creative director of the Guess fashion brand, and he’s completely denying all accusations.
Upton, 25, used her various social media platforms to accuse Marciano, 65, of unspecified sexual and emotional harassment of women.
Upton went even further on Instagram:
Marciano released a statement to TMZ on Monday denying any sexual misconduct.
“As of today, Ms. Upton still has provided no facts, no details, no dates and no circumstances to back up anything she has alleged,” Marciano said. “I am told she has been working with others for some time to defame me and will claim that I groped her among other things.”
The statement continued: “This allegation is false. I have never touched Kate Upton. I have never been alone with Kate Upton. I have never acted inappropriately towards her.”
“I have devoted my entire career to building a fashion company and brand that have a long and proud record of empowering women,” Marciano added. “I full support the #metoo movement. At the same time, I will not stand by and watch my reputation be tarnished. I have pledged to the Guess Board of Directors that I will fully cooperate with a fair and impartial investigation into all of the facts.”
After issuing her social media posts, Upton has not elaborated on specific behaviour or incidents to justify her allegations, but hinted in a brief altercation with paparazzi in LAX that she had more to say, but wasn’t prepared to elaborate there.
“I’m excited to tell my whole story,” said Upton in the video (above), “but a walk to the car is not going to cover it.”
Lat week, TMZ caught up with Marciano, who insists he’s done nothing wrong and therefore has no reason to apologize.
According to TMZ, Marciano admits he’s shocked by Upton’s allegations, and doesn’t have any idea about what her accusations might be. In fact, Marciano also insists that he’s never even touched Upton, and has never been alone with her.
“If she has a claim, there’s one place to tell the truth and that’s in court or to the police,” he tells TMZ.
He does, however, recall why she may be miffed at him, recounting that she became a superstar after five Guess campaigns and then began showing up for photo shoots after late nights “looking terrible.” Marciano alleges it was at that point that Guess decided to sever its relationship with her, and suggests this may be the motivation behind her public statements.
Following Marciano’s denial, Jennifer Lopez came forward to share her thoughts. Lopez — who is currently starring in the Guess 2018 spring campaign — released the following statement to ET Canada: “My position on these issues is well known, as I have been very vocal about them. I do not condone any acts of sexual harassment, violation, or misconduct. Any accusations should be fully and thoroughly investigated. I will continue to support our rights as women.”
