TMZ reported on Wednesday the Spice Girls would be embarking on a huge reunion tour later this year. But a source tells ET Canada “there is no tour planned” and TMZ’s report is “rubbish.”
Meanwhile, no less a source than Victoria Beckham herself confirmed there’s no tour in the works.
“I’m not going on tour,” the erstwhile Posh Spice told Vogue during a preview of her upcoming fashion collection.
“The girls aren’t going on tour,” she added. “It was so great to see the girls. We had such a fun lunch. It was really, really, really lovely. I still speak to them all individually, but for us all to get together was really lovely.”
As Beckham recalled, the women discussed how the Spice Girls’ brand could continue to live on.
“There’s something so strong in the message of what the Spice Girls stood for,” she explained. “What is that in the future? What does that look like? We were just bouncing ideas around. Brainstorming,”
Rumours of a reunion tour exploded when all five Spice Girls reunited for the first time in six years on Feb. 2, with TMZ reporting that they discussed the idea of a tour with former manager Simon Fuller.
The outlet reported that the girls would kick off their tour in summer 2018, first hitting the stage in England before heading to the United States.
TMZ also claimed that despite the group allegedly working on “merchandising opportunities” connected with the tour, there were no plans to record new music.
The girls were pictured making their way to Geri Halliwell’s house last week, hinting they’re set for a huge comeback.
The girl group’s rep released the following statement on their behalf: “We have enjoyed a wonderful afternoon catching-up and reminiscing about the amazing times we have spent together. We are always overwhelmed at how much interest there is across the whole world for The Spice Girls. The time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together. We all agree that there are many exciting possibilities that will once again embrace the original essence of The Spice Girls, while reinforcing our message of female empowerment for future generations.”
Mel B hopped on a plane from Los Angeles and was later seen arriving at Halliwell’s London home. Victoria Beckham, who it has long been rumoured is hesitant about a return to the stage, was also chauffeured to the house, while Mel C was spotted walking to the reunion.
Beckham later shared a photo of the group together, with her gushing about “exciting” times ahead in the caption.
The fabulous five last made an appearance together in 2012 at the London Olympics closing ceremony where they belted out an array of their greatest hits. According to earlier rumours, the Spice Girls were rumoured to be putting together a new deal that would be worth about $17 million each.
The snaps come after a source told The Sun: “This is the pop reunion no one thought would ever happen again. But after a long period of negotiation Victoria agreed the time is right to work on new projects this year.”
“It’s very exciting because she has always been adamant she wouldn’t go back,” the source added.
New projects were previously said to likely include a TV show in China, endorsement deals and a new album of their greatest hits.
