With rumours swirling of a Spice Girls reunion, Mel C (a.k.a. Sporty Spice) is confirming that discussions are underway for some type of Spice Girls project, admitting that talks of a potential reunion are “the worst-kept secret in showbiz.”
The cat was out of the bag when Mel and the other members of the group — Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham, Mel “Scary Spice” B, Geri “Ginger Spice” Horner and Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton — met last week, joined by manager Simon Fuller.
When news of the meeting broke, a rep confirmed that “the time now feels right to explore some incredible new opportunities together,” with members of the group sharing a reunion pic on social media.
As NME reports, Mel C spoke with host Dermot O’Leary on his BBC Radio show, confirming that discussions are underway but adding that there’s “nothing set in stone” at this point.
“The funny thing is, unfortunately, we can’t do anything without it being all over the press. It’s the worst kept secret in showbiz, isn’t it?” she told O’Leary.
Noting that it was “lovely to get together,” Mel C pointed out that she and the rest of the group are basically “talking about opportunities and ideas” for the future, and those talks are still in the “early stages and there’s nothing set in stone.”
She added: “There’s no big announcement. But it’s just great to be back in Spice World and to see the reaction.”
