Millions of viewers tuned in to the Super Bowl Sunday night, and many of them were very active on Twitter.
Justin Timberlake’s halftime performance alone garnered over 1.8 million tweets, with most of them coming at the end of his performance when he posed for a selfie with a young fan.
Other big moments from the halftime show included Timberlake singing along with a massive projection of Prince, with over 200,000 tweets mentioning the late musician, and his performance of “Suit & Tie” featuring a marching band.
When it came to the Super Bowl itself, the biggest moment of the night was, of course, the Philadelphia Eagles winning the game over the New England Patriots 41-33, inspiring some of the game’s most viral tweets.
NBA player Lonzo Ball had the night’s second-most viral tweet, anticipating the Eagles’ victory and calling for the release of rapper Meek Mill from prison.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady’s big fumble in the final stretch was close behind as one of the most tweeted moments of the night.
A tweet from “Sports Center” featuring Brady’s fumble with the Super Bowl trophy photoshopped over the ball became another of the game’s most viral tweets.
Tom Brady himself inspired the most tweets of any player on the team. On the Eagles’ side, quarterback Nick Foles was Twitter’s favourite star.
