Ever since Oprah Winfrey delivered her passionate speech at this year’s Golden Globes, many believed the TV host/media mogul was considering running for president in 2020.
While Winfrey, 64, has remarked in previous interviews that “It’s not something that interests me” and “I don’t have the DNA” for it, she reportedly shut the door on a presidential run even further during a recent taping of her OWN series “Super Soul Sunday“.
People reports Winfrey was chatting with guest Lin-Manuel Miranda when the “Hamilton” star remarked that he won’t be going into politics.
“Neither am I,” replied Winfrey.
Refinery29 writer Arianna Davis, who attended the taping, confirms that Oprah poured cold water on rumours of a presidential bid, reporting that Winfrey’s remark was met with “cheers and applause from the audience,” with Miranda adding, “I’d argue Oprah is a more powerful position than president.”
If Winfrey maintains her stance, this promises to be bad news for Democrats in the U.S.; according to an NPR poll taken last month, Winfrey would win 50 per cent to 39 per cent if she were running against President Trump.
